Laminations
In most cases, laminations produced during the steel making process have little impact on equipment strength unless there is significant number of them or they are located near structural discontinuities.
Fitness For Service offers a number of different ways of dealing with laminations, up to and including Level 3 FEA assessment with modified material properties in the lamination zone. However, it is important that other damage mechanisms (environmental, cracking, etc...) are also considered during the assessment. At IES, our experience in the assessment of lamination damage will ensure you receive an appropriate and complete level of assessment.
